Training attendance tracking: a simple system coaches actually use

Who was at training last Tuesday? If the answer means scrolling through a chat group or finding the notebook in the car, attendance tracking isn't working. Here is how to set it up so it takes 30 seconds per session and the records survive a change of coach.

Why track attendance at all

Attendance is the simplest data a club has, and it says a lot: who trains regularly and has earned minutes, which child suddenly stopped coming (often the first sign that something is wrong at home, at school or with motivation), and which session in the week is poorly attended. For a youth academy it is also proof to parents and sponsors that the work is serious.

Two different things: who is coming and who came

Most time is lost when these two questions get mixed. The reply is what a player or parent says before the session: going, maybe or can't. Attendance is what the coach marks afterwards: present, late or absent. Replies help plan the session (are there enough players for 7-a-side), attendance is the lasting record.

How it works in Football First

In Football First the sessions live in the calendar, players and parents reply in the app, and the coach gets a notification with the new count. Attendance and the match report go on the same session, and the club admin decides which coach may record them.
