Getting started
10 questions and answers about “Getting started” in Football First, the app for football clubs and youth academies.
What is Football First?
An app for a football club and its youth academy. In one place you have:
- the training and match calendar, and who is coming
- teams, players and parents
- team, parents and staff chat
- coach notes, match results and a tactics board
- membership fees, FA registration and medical exams
- player availability and health
Everyone only sees what concerns them: a parent sees their child, a coach their teams, the admin the whole club.
How do I register a club?
On the home page click Register club. Enter the club name, your name, email and a password (at least 10 characters).
You become the club admin. Payments, invoices and important club mail will go to your email, so use a real address.
Then you choose a plan (monthly or yearly) and enter a card on Stripe's page. The first 15 days are free.
What should I do first after registering?
The Club page has a First steps card that walks you through five steps:
- create a team (e.g. U13 or First team)
- add players to it
- add a coach
- create logins for parents
- schedule the first training
The card disappears once everything is done.
Which roles are there and who sees what?
- Club admin: the whole club, teams, logins, fees and settings. Can always do everything.
- Sporting director: all teams, notes, tactics and records (without recording payments).
- Medical staff: player availability and medical notes.
- Head and assistant coach: their teams, calendar, attendance, notes, tactics and player and parent logins.
- Team manager: attendance, results and notes.
- Player and parent: calendar, replies, chat and whatever the coach shares.
The admin can set what each coach or manager may do (see "How do I set what a coach may do?").
Is there a phone app?
Football First runs in the browser (Safari, Chrome…) on phones and computers, so there is nothing to install. On a phone the main sections are in the tabs at the bottom; everything else is under More.
To keep it on your home screen like an app: open the page in the browser and choose Share → Add to Home Screen (iPhone) or ⋮ → Add to Home screen (Android).
Where do I see notifications? Does the app send email or SMS?
Everything the club sends is in the app: notifications are under the bell (the number shows new ones), club announcements on the Announcements board, and messages in Chat. You get a notification when a session is added, moved or cancelled, when the club or a coach posts an announcement, when a coach shares a note or a tactics board with you, and so on.
The same notifications can also come to your phone: turn them on in Settings → Notifications on this phone. The app sends no email or SMS.
How do I get notifications on my phone?
Open Settings → Notifications on this phone, tap Turn on notifications and allow them when the browser asks. It is turned on separately on each phone or computer. Send a test checks that it works.
- Android: works in Chrome, nothing to install.
- iPhone: first add the app to the home screen (Safari → Share → Add to Home Screen), open it from the home screen and only then turn notifications on. iOS 16.4 or newer is needed.
During the club's quiet hours (usually 21:00–07:00) phone notifications wait until the morning; they are in the app straight away. When you sign out, the phone stops getting notifications.
What is the Announcements board?
Announcements holds the club's and the coaches' announcements: schedule changes, meetings, payments, tournaments. You see the ones meant for you or for your children's teams; pinned ones are on top. When a new one arrives you get a notification, and the Calendar shows a New announcement strip on top.
What is the team picker at the top of the menu?
If you are in several teams (e.g. you coach two, or have two children), you pick one team or All teams at the top of the menu. The calendar, team and other pages then show only that choice. The app remembers it.
I'm in two clubs. Do I need two logins?
No. One login can belong to several clubs (e.g. a coach who also helps another club). Switch clubs in the menu where the club name is (on a phone under More).
